Since 1999, the IRC has developed partnerships with New York City public schools, community-based organizations and local colleges and universities to support the positive development of refugee youth and their communities in New York City. The Youth Education Program provides year-round programming working directly with refugee youth, their parents and families, and their schools.

Job Overview:

The Youth Program Operations Coordinator is responsible for supporting the smooth operation of all IRC in New York Youth Programs, including the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy, Youth Tutoring, Leaders in Training and School Success Coaching. This includes leading procurement of supplies, management of Google Suite accounts, coordinating student transportation, meals, field trips, recreational activities, special events, and liaising with partners. They work closely with colleagues to ensure that the Youth Program goals and objectives are accomplished using a holistic, collaborative approach in partnership with school staff, partner organizations, parents, and newcomer youth.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate staff training for youth programs
  • Organize Metro Card procurement, distribution, and tracking
  • Provide technological support to instructional staff and students, including managing, maintaining and securing devices
  • Conduct inventory of supplies, organize & lead procurement of materials
  • Prepare purchase vouchers and process receipts
  • Assist with student school enrollments for recently arrived families
  • Administer interviews and finalize hiring for Peer Mentors
  • Facilitate and supervise program relocation
  • Strategize and execute community events, field trips, graduation and donor visits.
  • Liaise with host school staff and vendors regarding all student meals & contracts for student breakfast/lunch
  • Manage a small team of staff, including Youth Program Specialists and Peer Mentors, providing support, guidance, and regular feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan, prepare, and facilitate Youth Tutor training. Oversee onboarding logistics for volunteer Youth Tutoring team, including setup of Google Suite accounts
  • Facilitate student arrival and dismissal, following policies and procedures
  • Update and create youth education department promotional materials, including securing accurate translations
  • Plan college tours and career days for the Leaders in the Training program

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in in business, logistics, education, or related field

Work Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience coordinating program operations and logistics, preferably in a youth education setting

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies

  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations is strongly preferred ​
  • Experience working with the New York City Public School system highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality. Ability to lead in a way that recognizes IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Attentive to detail
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, especially MS Excel
  • Organized, responsible, and flexible: able to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment
  • Fluency in English required; fluency in a second language highly desired (Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, French)

Working Environment:

  • All applicants must be based in or be willing to work from our New York City office.
  • Expected to be in-person Monday-Friday during mini-NYSA and NYSA which we plan to take place in-person in a centrally located public school in New York City.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
