BACKGROUND:

Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to forcibly displaced people due to war or disaster. The IRC is on the ground in more than 40 countries, providing emergency relief, relocating refugees and rebuilding lives in the wake of disaster. Through 29 regional offices in cities across the United States, the IRC helps refugees resettle and become self-sufficient. The IRC-Wichita office has been providing services to newly arrived refugees since 2011. The IRC-Wichita office serves refugees and immigrants by providing resettlement and placement, family strengthening services through trauma informed care, economic empowerment, youth and adult education and immigration services provided by a Department of Justice accredited legal representative. The IRC helps those in need to rebuild their lives and regain control of their future in their new home.

Job Overview:

The Development Manager is responsible for business development, grant management maintaining and strategic relationships with external partners, public relations, contract management, and oversight of volunteer, outreach, and in-kind donation programs.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop an annual business development plan with specific and measurable goals and objectives for the development of restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Cultivate new individual donors, ensuring appropriate donor stewardship.
  • Assess and identify local foundations, corporations, and other philanthropic institutions as potential funding sources. Develop and maintain effective relationships to maximize IRC’s fundraising opportunities.
  • Identify and solicit sponsorship for IRC events and programs.
  • Write grant proposals to private foundations and other appropriate entities in collaboration with the Executive Director and Program Manager
  • Oversee the production and use of marketing materials (newsletters, publications, sponsorship, press materials, and web presence).
  • Develop and maintain strong media relationships.
  • Represent the IRC both internally and externally through conference participation, speaking engagements and related activities.
  • Provide oversight of volunteer, outreach, and in-kind donation programs.
  • Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • Manage a small team of staff in accordance with IRC’s People Manager Standards.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, or Development; or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in relevant area such as Fundraising, Development, or MBA preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible professional experience, a significant portion of which should include business development, program management, fundraising, special events, proposal writing and other resource development activities.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

  • Demonstrated record of cultivating successful relationships with foundations and other relevant entities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop successfully funded grant proposals.
  • Proven ability to conduct research through various sources to target and locate potential sources of funding.
  • Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding communications, organizational, leadership, multi-taking and team building skills with the proven ability to promote productivity and efficiency in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in English required; bilingual ability is desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Salesforce.
  • Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours including occasional weeknights and weekends, as necessary.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirement.
